The Vieux Carré (French for “Old Square”) is a cocktail that was first mixed in the 1940s by Walter Bergeron, a bartender at the Carousel Bar in the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans. The drink is a blend of cognac, rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and Benedictine.
